In 2013, I stepped up the new head of the Lake Leelanau Community Association, seeking your
support in an effort to revitalize and refocus our Association to meet the
needs of our community. Many of you responded by entrusting us with your dues,
your volunteer time, and your enthusiasm.
Since then, Lake
Leelanau Community Association regained its financial footing. We successfully
reinvented the traditional Pancake Breakfast. We installed flower boxes on the
bridge, welcoming visitors and cheering residents. We held the first annual
Bridge Walk. The village Christmas display has never looked better, as the
angels were rebuilt from the frame up, repainted, and relit with new LED lights.
The LLCA served lunch to Santa and his fans at the 3rd Annual Provemont Holiday
Mart, and built and sold the lighted balls that hung throughout the village.
We have committed to
hosting the Leelanau Peninsula Birding Festival, attracting avid birders to our
village from across the country to start our summer season. We provide logistical
support to the Walleye Tournament. We maintain an active Facebook page
showcasing our community. We are collaborators and supporters of the upcoming
Lake Leelanau Street Fair, to be held on August 15th of this year.
The Lake Leelanau
Community Association meets monthly, on the second Tuesday of the month. Our
next meeting is at 6:30 at the Boathouse Winery Tasting Room. This year our
annual meeting will be on February 21st at the Chamber of Commerce
office on the narrows at 11 am. Regular meetings have attracted new volunteers
and fostered a discussion of how to best support and showcase our community
while preserving its livability and charm.
Please join us! We
need you. We welcome your ideas. We depend upon your financial support and
volunteerism. We hope that you will return the enclosed card and become a dues
paying member of the Lake Leelanau Community Association, or renew your
membership for 2015. We hope you will
share your ideas and enthusiasm, and that you will take a turn flipping
pancakes, watering flowers, greeting birders, or serving with us on the board.
